Passed It by Ian Lewis Copestick

Brit Grit, Ian Copestick, Poetry, Punk Noir Magazine

Middle age is beginning
To sit comfortably upon
My shoulders. I can handle
The wrinkles, I’ve been
Balding since my late
Teens, I’ve never been
What you might call a
Looker, and looking
Back over my youth I
Don’t see much to miss.
Of course age brings
Its own problems and
Difficulties, but acne,
Sexual anxieties, identity
Issues, and adolescent
Angst are all thankfully
Things of the past.
I’m 47 years old now
And I actually like the
Person I have ended
Up becoming. A bit too
Obsessed with Rock and
Roll perhaps, but there
Are a lot of worse things
To be. The older I get, the
More I like my fellow man,
And woman. I enjoy feeling
Part of a community, the
People I say hello to as I
Walk my dog. It amazes
Me how much I enjoy
Such simple pleasures.
I’m definitely getting old
And past it, but I’ve been
There before, and I am
Happy to go passed.
