My Beliefs by Ian Lewis Copestick

Brit Grit, Ian Copestick, Poetry, Punk Noir Magazine

Maybe I’ve just got too much
Time on my hands, but I’ve
Been thinking a lot just lately
About my beliefs, my moral
Centre, and where such things
Come from.
I’ve realised that I’m definitely
Not religious, I don’t subscribe
To any organised religion.
I don’t need a middleman to
Tell me what I should believe
Or how I should behave.
I suppose I’ve got a sort of
Chocolate box attitude to
Religions. I’ll take the toffee
From Christianity, but I’ll
Leave the Brazil nut. The
Cherry fondant centre from
Buddhism and the honeycomb
In chocolate from Islam.
Anything that I don’t like, I’ll
Leave. Nobody has the
Right to tell me if I am right
Or wrong, because they’re
MY beliefs. I don’t want to
Indoctrinate anyone else.
They’re MY beliefs and they
Have got fuck all to do with
Anyone else.
I hope you are the same.
